Newborn Photography Sessions
in County Durham and Newcastle

When?

Newborn baby photography sessions are typically done at our dedicated newborn studio in Burnopfield, County Durham. We find that the best time to photograph newborn babies is around 5 – 28 days old. This is the time when babies are very sleepy and barely notice their surroundings. They sleep for most of the day and mostly wake to be fed. We do also photograph older babies too and find we get more alert images as they notice their surroundings more. The galleries below show the difference between newborn babies and babies older than six weeks.

Safety

Sam is the newborn photographer for Mini Bee Photography in County Durham and typically photographs over 200 newborns a year. She is trained in newborn safety and first aid and is well equipped and experienced to handle your baby. She works with children every day and has lots of experience with young siblings too, especially at this overwhelming time.

The Prep

Before the photoshoot, you will receive a phone call from Mini Bee Photography where we will discuss with you; what to expect, what to bring, your style, colour preference, your ‘must have’ images, your family and sibling images and most importantly how to prepare for your newborn photography session. We also discuss your home interior colours so that we can personalise the newborn session and match it to your home. We also have tips to ensure you get photos of baby with their eyes open, this is all in the preparation which we will go through with you during the phone consultation.

The Photoshoot

Upon arrival at the photography studio, you will be welcomed with a smile, hot drink and some biscuits. Depending on your appetite, you can bring additional snacks with you or if you prefer a take away there is a chip shop, bakery, indians, chinese all within walking distance from the studio. When we do newborn photography sessions the studio is booked out solely for you and your family during this time. We want you to relax and feel at home.

Once settled in, you will see all of your requested colours, props and set designs which were discussed with you prior during our telephone conversation. This is the time where you can sit back, relax and watch the most magical experience with your newborn baby. You’ll be amazed at how settled and soothed your baby will be. Your photographer is fully trained with newborns and will swaddled your baby so they extremely comfortable. The studio is kept nice and warm so baby is relaxed, comfortable and calm. We use white noise during your newborn photoshoot to soothe your baby into a deep sleep and we also have a dedicated newborn photography table that has a slight vibration to usher your little one to sleep. This table is very popular with our little models. Safety is our top priority, and so we will either have an assistant to help watch over baby or we will ask mum or dad to keep an extra eye on little one whilst we set up for different images.

The Viewing

Once your newborn photography session has finished, we will show you a few sneak peeks on the back of our camera. This is when we usually hear, “I can’t wait to see them all”. We know how exciting this time is and so, we ask you back in to the studio to view all of your images on a beautifully presented slideshow that is unique to your baby,  approximately two – three weeks after your photography session. This is when you come back to the studio with your wall measurements so we can design wall art with your favourite people in. As we have discussed your interior colours prior, we plan to match this to your home or if you prefer you can go for something completely different. Whatever you decide, we have a range of wall art available as well as digital package options. The beauty of our newborn photography sessions is that you don’t need to decide straight away on booking, this is exactly what your viewing session is for.
